Today’s Catholic Reflection

During the reign of King Ahaz in Judah, Jerusalem faced threats from Aram and Israel. The king and his people were filled with fear as the enemy approached. God sent the prophet Isaiah to bring reassurance to Ahaz. He encouraged the king to stay calm and to have faith. God promised that the plans of the enemies would fail and foretold the downfall of Ephraim within sixty-five years.

In the Gospel, Jesus spoke towns where he had performed miracles but where people did not change their hearts. He felt sorrow for Chorazin and Bethsaida. He said that if the same miracles had happened in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented. Jesus warned Capernaum that its pride would lead to its downfall, comparing it unfavorably to Sodom. This teaches us the importance of responding to God's revelations with true repentance.
