Today’s Catholic Reflection

In the passage from Jeremiah, the LORD recalls the early devotion of Israel. He compares their relationship to that of a bride and groom. He feels sorrow over how they have turned away, defiling the land He gave them. Their leaders and prophets have not sought Him, choosing instead to follow false idols. The LORD points out two significant wrongs: abandoning Him, the source of life, and creating flawed systems that cannot provide true sustenance.

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus explains to His disciples why He teaches in parables. He shares that understanding the mysteries of the Kingdom of heaven is a gift for them. Others, however, remain closed off to this knowledge. He cites the prophecy of Isaiah, showing that many will hear and see but not understand. Jesus reassures His disciples that they are blessed for their ability to perceive and grasp the truths He shares, which many prophets and righteous people longed to witness.
