Today’s Catholic Reflection
In the passage from Micah, the LORD invites the mountains and hills to witness a dispute with His people, Israel. He questions them about their complaints and reminds them of His past actions, like leading them out of Egypt and providing leaders such as Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. The people ponder how to approach God, considering different offerings and sacrifices. The LORD makes it clear that He desires them to act justly, love kindness, and walk humbly with Him.
The psalm highlights that God values the integrity of the heart more than rituals and sacrifices. True worship involves living in accordance with His teachings and being faithful to His covenant. In the Gospel, Jesus responds to the scribes and Pharisees who seek a sign. He tells them their generation is unfaithful. He points to Jonah and the queen of the south as examples of those who recognized God's message, indicating that something greater than Jonah and Solomon is present among them.
