Today’s Catholic Reflection
In the passage from Hosea, Israel is like a thriving vine that has lost its way. As the nation grew, it built many altars and sacred pillars, turning away from true worship. God warns that these altars will be destroyed, and the people will face the consequences of their actions. Without a king and lacking fear of the Lord, they will feel hopeless, calling for the mountains to hide them in their distress. They are urged to seek justice and return to God to find His blessings.
The psalm invites us to seek the Lord's presence and celebrate His works. It encourages the faithful to remember God's strength and serve Him sincerely. The descendants of Abraham are called to recognize the Lord as their God, whose judgments reach all people. In the Gospel, Jesus empowers His Twelve disciples to heal and cast out evil spirits. He instructs them to focus on the lost sheep of Israel and to share the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven. This mission highlights the need for repentance and belief in the Gospel.
