Today’s Catholic Reflection

Elijah found himself in a difficult situation when the brook he depended on for water dried up. Following God's guidance, he made his way to Zarephath and met a widow gathering sticks. When he asked her for water and bread, she shared her struggles, explaining that she had just enough flour and oil for one last meal for herself and her son. Elijah comforted her, telling her not to be afraid. He asked her to make him a small cake first, assuring her that her supplies would last until the drought ended. The widow listened to him, and miraculously, her flour and oil did not run out for the entire year.

In the Gospel, Jesus spoke to his disciples about their purpose in the world. He compared them to salt and light, explaining that salt loses its value if it becomes tasteless. He noted that a city on a hill is visible to all and that a lamp should be placed where it can light up the whole house. Jesus encouraged his followers to let their light shine through their good deeds, so others would see them and give glory to God. This teaching encourages believers to live in a way that reflects their faith and positively impacts those around them.
