Today’s Catholic Reflection
In the passage from Job, we see a dialogue between the LORD and Satan about Job's faithfulness. Satan questions Job's devotion, suggesting it stems from the blessings he receives. The LORD permits Satan to test Job by taking away his possessions and children, but He protects Job himself. After experiencing profound loss, Job learns of the death of his livestock and children. Despite his deep sorrow, he maintains respect for God, recognizing both the gifts and the losses in his life.
In the Gospel from Luke, the disciples argue about who is the greatest among them. Jesus, aware of their thoughts, uses a child to show that true greatness lies in humility and in welcoming those who are least. When John expresses concern about someone casting out demons in Jesus' name, he worries because this person is not part of their group. Jesus reassures him that those who are not against them are on their side. This teaches us the importance of unity and acceptance in our shared mission.
