Today’s Catholic Reflection

In the first reading from 1 Corinthians, Paul speaks of the Church as one body made up of many parts. Each part has its own role, and all believers are united in Christ through the Holy Spirit. There are different gifts within the Church, like those of apostles, prophets, and teachers. This shows the diverse contributions that strengthen the faith community. Paul encourages everyone to seek the greatest spiritual gifts and to work together in harmony.

The Gospel passage from John presents Mary standing by the cross of Jesus. She witnesses his suffering and pain. In this moment, Jesus entrusts his mother to the disciple he loved, forming a new bond between them. This act highlights Mary's role as a mother to all believers. As she shares in her Son's crucifixion, her sorrow reflects a deep connection to Christ's own suffering. The readings together reveal themes of unity, suffering, and the maternal role of Mary in the Christian community.
