Today’s Catholic Reflection
In 2 Maccabees 7, seven brothers and their mother endure severe torture from the king for refusing to eat pork, which contradicts their faith. The mother shows incredible strength as she watches her sons face execution. She encourages them to stay true to their beliefs, reminding them that their lives are a gift from the Creator. Her words motivate the youngest brother, who chooses to honor the law of their ancestors rather than accept the king's offers.
In the Gospel of Luke 19, Jesus shares a parable about a nobleman who travels to another country to gain kingship. He gives ten gold coins to his servants, asking them to invest wisely until he returns. When he comes back, he rewards those who have increased their coins and rebukes the servant who buried his out of fear. The nobleman makes it clear that the faithful will receive more, while those who do not act will lose what they have. This story illustrates the importance of being accountable for our choices.
