Today’s Catholic Reflection

In Acts 14:19-28, Paul faces great opposition. Some Jews stone him and leave him for dead. Miraculously, he recovers and continues his mission with Barnabas. They preach in Derbe and gain many new followers. They return to the cities where they had preached, encouraging the disciples to stay strong in their faith. Paul and Barnabas appoint leaders in each church and pray for the communities before going back to Antioch. There, they share their experiences and the growth of faith among the Gentiles.

In the Gospel of John 14:27-31, Jesus comforts his disciples. He offers them a peace that is different from what the world knows. He reassures them not to be troubled or afraid. His departure to the Father should bring them joy. Jesus speaks of his obedience to the Father and the ruler of the world, saying this figure has no power over him. He prepares the disciples for what is ahead, aiming to strengthen their belief when the events unfold as he has said.
