Today’s Catholic Reflection
In Jeremiah 17:5-10, the Lord speaks about those who trust in human strength instead of Him. These people are like a barren bush in a dry land, lacking life and support. On the other hand, those who trust in the Lord are like a strong tree by the water, thriving even in hard times. The passage reflects the depth of the human heart, which only the Lord can know and judge, giving each person what they deserve based on their actions.
The Responsorial Psalm echoes this message of blessings for those who put their hope in the Lord. It portrays the righteous as a tree by flowing water, fruitful and successful in all they do. In contrast, the wicked are like chaff blown away by the wind. The Lord watches over the righteous, while the paths of the wicked lead to ruin. In the Gospel of Luke 16:19-31, Jesus tells the story of a rich man and a poor man named Lazarus. After they die, Lazarus finds comfort, while the rich man suffers. The rich man asks for help and warns his family, but Abraham reminds him to listen to Moses and the prophets.
