Today’s Catholic Reflection
In Isaiah, the LORD speaks to King Ahaz. He invites Ahaz to ask for a sign. Ahaz declines, saying he does not want to test God. Isaiah then shares a prophecy. A virgin will conceive and bear a son named Emmanuel, which means "God is with us." This highlights God's promise and presence among His people.
In the Gospel of Luke, the angel Gabriel visits Mary in Nazareth. He tells her she will conceive a son named Jesus. Jesus will be great and reign forever. Mary feels confused about how this can happen, as she is a virgin. The angel comforts her, explaining that the Holy Spirit will make this possible. Mary accepts her role as the handmaid of the Lord, showing her faith and obedience.
