Today’s Catholic Reflection
In Hosea 6:1-6, the people are invited to return to the Lord. He acknowledges their suffering but promises healing and renewal. They are encouraged to seek knowledge of God, who will come to them like refreshing rain. However, God expresses disappointment with their insincere worship. He compares their devotion to fleeting morning clouds and dew. What He desires is love and a genuine relationship, not just sacrifices and offerings.
In Luke 18:9-14, Jesus tells a parable about a Pharisee and a tax collector. The Pharisee proudly boasts of his religious practices. In contrast, the tax collector recognizes his sinfulness and asks for mercy. Jesus teaches that the humble tax collector is justified before God, while the one who exalts himself will be brought low. This parable humility and sincere repentance over mere outward displays of righteousness.
