Today’s Catholic Reflection
In the passage from Amos, the Lord speaks to the people of Israel. He reminds them of their close relationship with Him. Their favored status carries a weight of responsibility. Because of their sins, they will face consequences. The Lord uses strong imagery to convey this truth and shows that actions have inevitable results. He shares His plans through prophets and tells Israel to prepare for what is to come.
In the Gospel from Matthew, Jesus and His disciples are in a boat during a fierce storm. Despite the chaos around them, Jesus sleeps peacefully. His disciples wake Him, terrified for their lives. He questions their faith and then commands the winds and sea to be still. Immediately, the storm calms, leaving the disciples in awe of His authority over nature and pondering who He is.
