Elijah and Elisha walked together as the LORD prepared to take Elijah to heaven in a whirlwind. Even when Elijah asked Elisha to stay behind, Elisha chose to stay by his side. At the Jordan River, Elijah struck the water with his mantle, and it parted, allowing them to cross on dry ground. Before his ascension, Elijah offered to grant Elisha one request. Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah's spirit, and as Elijah was taken up in a chariot of fire, Elisha mourned and picked up the mantle, signifying his new role.
The Psalm speaks of trust in the goodness of the LORD. It reflects His protection and care for those who are faithful. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches His disciples about how to approach righteous deeds. He highlights sincerity over public recognition. He encourages them to give alms, pray, and fast in secret, assuring them that their Father will reward their genuine actions. This teaching nurtures a personal relationship with God, focusing on inner devotion.
