Today’s Catholic Reflection
In the early days of the Church, many people in Antioch came to believe in the Lord. This led the Church in Jerusalem to send Barnabas to help them. When he arrived, he saw the grace of God at work among the people. He encouraged them to remain faithful. Barnabas later found Saul, and together they taught the growing community of disciples in Antioch, where followers of Jesus were first called Christians. As they worshipped and fasted, the Holy Spirit guided them to set apart Barnabas and Saul for a special mission.
In the Gospel, Jesus shared deeper insights about righteousness. He explained that true righteousness must surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees to enter the Kingdom of heaven. He spoke commandment against killing, saying that even anger towards a brother can lead to judgment. Jesus taught that reconciliation should come before offering gifts at the altar. He stressed the importance of resolving conflicts, warning that unresolved disputes could have serious consequences for our relationships.
