Today’s Catholic Reflection
During the reign of King Jehoiakim in Judah, the Lord sent Jeremiah to speak to the people at the temple. Jeremiah urged them to turn away from their harmful ways. He warned that ignoring this call would bring destruction, much like what had happened at Shiloh. The priests and prophets were furious and demanded that he be put to death. The crowd gathered around him, filled with anger.
In the Gospel, Jesus returned to his hometown and taught in the synagogue. The people were astonished by his wisdom and miracles. Still, they found it hard to accept him as the carpenter's son. Jesus noted that a prophet often lacks honor in his own community. Because of their lack of faith, he did not perform many miracles there.
