Today’s Catholic Reflection
In Jeremiah 14:17-22, the prophet shares his deep sorrow for the people of Judah. He speaks of the destruction brought on by war and famine, showing the despair felt by the land and its leaders. Jeremiah questions if God has left His people and pleads for mercy. He acknowledges their sins and asks God to remember His covenant with them. Only the Lord can provide the rain and sustenance they need.
The Responsorial Psalm echoes this plea for help. It asks God to overlook past wrongs and show compassion to those who are suffering. The psalmist seeks assistance for the sake of God's glory, urging Him to free those in distress. In the Gospel of Matthew 13:36-43, Jesus explains the parable of the weeds. He identifies Himself as the sower of good seed and contrasts the children of the Kingdom with the children of the Evil One. He warns of a final judgment where the righteous will be separated from evildoers, leading to eternal reward for the faithful.
