Today’s Catholic Reflection
In the reading from 1 John, the author shares insights bond between believers and God. Those who follow God's commandments, especially the believe in Jesus and love one another, are united with Him. The text advises caution in trusting every spirit. Believers should test these spirits to see if they come from God. The presence of the Spirit within confirms their connection, while those who do not acknowledge Jesus are not part of Him.
In the Gospel of Matthew, we see the beginning of Jesus' ministry in Galilee after John's arrest. He fulfills prophecy by preaching about repentance and the coming of the Kingdom of heaven. Jesus teaches in synagogues and heals many, attracting large crowds from nearby areas. His actions bring hope and light to those in darkness, showing His authority and compassion.
