Today’s Catholic Reflection

In 2 Samuel, David stays in Jerusalem while Joab leads the army against the Ammonites. One evening, he sees Bathsheba bathing. After learning she is Uriah's wife, he calls her and sleeps with her. When Bathsheba tells David that she is pregnant, he tries to cover it up by bringing Uriah back from battle. Uriah, however, chooses to remain with his fellow soldiers. In a moment of desperation, David sends Uriah back to the front lines with orders that result in his death.

Psalm 51 is a heartfelt plea for mercy and forgiveness from God. The speaker acknowledges their wrongdoing and seeks cleansing and restoration. There is a deep yearning for joy and renewal after sin. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus shares parables Kingdom of God. He compares it to a man who scatters seeds that grow without his knowledge and to a mustard seed that grows into a large plant. These stories reveal the mysterious and expansive nature of God's Kingdom.
