Today’s Catholic Reflection
Solomon spoke to the people of Israel at the altar of the Lord. He recognized the uniqueness of God, who remains faithful to those who trust Him. Solomon showed humility, wondering how God could inhabit the temple he had built. He understood that even the heavens cannot hold God. He asked for God's attention to the prayers offered there and sought mercy for himself and the people.
In the Gospel, the Pharisees and scribes criticized Jesus because His disciples ate without washing their hands. They were focused on their traditions. Jesus pointed out their hypocrisy and quoted Isaiah. He showed that their worship was shallow, prioritizing human customs over God's commandments. He highlighted how their traditions compromised the command to honor parents, revealing how they had set aside God's word for their own practices. Jesus stressed the importance of following God's laws rather than just observing rituals.
