Today’s Catholic Reflection
In the reading from James, perseverance in temptation is shown as a virtue. This virtue leads to the reward of eternal life for those who love God. God does not tempt anyone to do evil. Temptation comes from our own desires. When these desires lead to sin, they can lead to spiritual death. All good gifts come from God, who remains constant. He gives life through the truth of His word.
The Psalm speaks of the blessings that come from being instructed by God. It offers comfort during difficult times and assures that God will not abandon His people. Justice will prevail for the righteous. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus warns His disciples influences of the Pharisees and Herod. The disciples misunderstand Him, thinking He is talking about their lack of bread. Jesus reminds them of the miracles He performed with loaves. He questions their understanding and encourages them to remember His past provisions.
