Today’s Catholic Reflection
The queen of Sheba journeyed to Jerusalem to test King Solomon with difficult questions. She came with a large entourage and many gifts, including spices, gold, and precious stones. After speaking with Solomon and seeing his wisdom and the beauty of his court, she was filled with amazement. She praised him and recognized the Lord's favor in his role as king. In gratitude, she offered him lavish gifts, making her visit a noteworthy occasion.
In the Gospel, Jesus spoke to the crowd about what defiles a person. He taught that it is. He explained to his disciples that food passes through the body without affecting the heart. Jesus named various evils that stem from the heart, such as greed and malice. This teaching highlighted the need for inner purity rather than focusing solely on external practices.
