Today’s Catholic Reflection
Stephen was full of grace and power. He performed remarkable signs and wonders among the people. He debated with members of the Synagogue of Freedmen, but they could not match his wisdom or the Spirit guiding him. Their anger grew, leading to a violent response. As Stephen looked up to heaven, he saw God's glory and Jesus at His right hand. The crowd, enraged, rushed at him, dragged him out of the city, and began to stone him. In his final moments, Stephen called out to Jesus to receive his spirit.
In the Psalm, the speaker shows trust in God as a refuge and stronghold. They commend their spirit into God's hands for safety and redemption. In the Gospel, Jesus warns His disciples persecution ahead. He tells them they will be brought before authorities and reassures them that the Holy Spirit will guide their words. Jesus forewarns of familial betrayal and hatred because of His name. Those who endure these trials will find salvation.
