Today’s Catholic Reflection
In the passage from Zephaniah, the Lord expresses sadness over a city that has turned away from Him. This city does not listen or accept correction, showing a lack of trust in God. Still, there is a promise of purification and unity among the people. One day, they will call upon the Lord and serve Him together. A humble remnant will remain, finding safety in the Lord's name.
The Psalm speaks of the Lord's attentiveness to the cries of the poor and brokenhearted. It assures us that the just will be rescued from their troubles. The Lord is close to those in distress. The Gospel shares a parable about two sons, showing that actions matter more than words. The first son initially refuses to work but ultimately obeys, while the second son agrees to work but does not follow through. Jesus highlights that those who seem far from God may enter His kingdom before those who do not act on their promises.
