Today’s Catholic Reflection

In the first reading from 1 Corinthians, the author speaks to the community. God often chooses those seen as foolish, weak, and lowly to carry out His plans. This challenges how we think about wisdom and power. No one can take pride in their own achievements before God. Through Christ Jesus, believers receive wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. They are encouraged to find their boast in the Lord alone.

The Gospel from Mark tells the story of John the Baptist's imprisonment and execution by Herod. Herod arrested John for speaking out against his marriage to Herodias, his brother's wife. Even though Herod respected John, he gives in to the pressure from his guests. He grants the request of Herodias' daughter, leading to John's death. Afterward, John's disciples take his body and lay it in a tomb, marking a tragic end to his ministry.
