Today’s Catholic Reflection

In the passage from Ezekiel, the prophet finds himself in a valley filled with dry bones. God asks him if these bones can come to life. Ezekiel knows that only God has the answer. God tells Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones, promising to bring them back to life. As Ezekiel speaks, the bones come together, and soon they are transformed into a living army. This vision shows the restoration of Israel, as God plans to open their graves and return them to their land.

The psalm expresses gratitude for God's enduring love and mercy. It tells of those who have been saved from their troubles, sharing their cries for help and God's guidance to safety. The psalmist invites the redeemed to give thanks for God's wondrous deeds. In the Gospel, a Pharisee asks Jesus greatest commandment. Jesus replies that loving God with all one's heart, soul, and mind is the greatest commandment, followed by the command to love one's neighbor as oneself. This sums up the essence of the law and the prophets.
