Today’s Catholic Reflection

In Ezekiel 24:15-23, the Lord tells Ezekiel not to mourn for his wife. This instruction serves as a sign for the people of Israel. Even in his grief, Ezekiel must carry on with his daily life, wearing his turban and sandals. His actions symbolize the coming destruction of the sanctuary and the suffering that will follow due to the people's sins. When they question him, he explains that they will face similar hardships and will not have the chance to mourn.

The Psalm from Deuteronomy speaks of the people's forgetfulness of God, their creator. The Lord shows anger at their disloyalty and idolatry, stressing that their choices carry weight. In the Gospel of Matthew, a young man asks Jesus how to have eternal life. Jesus tells him to follow the commandments. When the young man insists he has kept them all, Jesus challenges him to sell his possessions and give to the poor. The young man leaves, saddened by the thought of parting with his wealth, highlighting the struggle of choosing spiritual wealth over material goods.
