Today’s Catholic Reflection
In the first reading from Ezekiel, the Lord addresses Jerusalem, recalling its beginnings and past neglect. Jerusalem is described as abandoned at birth, without care or compassion. The Lord steps in, nurturing and adorning Jerusalem, turning it into something beautiful and dignified. Yet, Jerusalem becomes proud and unfaithful, using its beauty for betrayal. The Lord remembers the covenant and promises an everlasting bond, offering forgiveness and a chance for renewal.
In the Gospel from Matthew, Jesus speaks with the Pharisees about divorce. He refers to the creation story, saying that marriage unites a man and a woman as one flesh, which should not be separated. Jesus acknowledges that Moses allowed divorce because of people's hardened hearts, but this was not God's original plan. He mentions that some may choose celibacy for the Kingdom of heaven.
