The Mobile County District Attorney’s office is seeking information from the public regarding a young Catholic priest in Alabama who left his parish and allegedly left the country with a recent high school graduate for an exorcism. The Mobile Archdiocese publicly placed Father Alex Crow, 30, under restriction and stated that he had abandoned his assignment and exhibited behavior unbecoming of a priest. Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi informed Father Crow that he can no longer exercise ministry as a priest or dress as one. The archdiocese has reported the circumstances of his departure to the district attorney’s office. The district attorney’s office has received an initial report of the priest and the 18-year-old leaving the country together, but they have limited information about their whereabouts. They are working to gather more facts and encourage anyone with information to come forward. The archdiocese declined to provide additional information to respect the privacy of innocent parties. The district attorney’s office has no evidence or information suggesting that the young woman is in danger or that any criminal action has taken place. Local media reports suggest that the woman is a recent graduate of McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, where Father Crow had previously served on staff. Father Crow had spoken about demonology to students at the school and may have traveled with the young woman to Spain for an exorcism. Before his ordination, Father Crow had struggled with his faith but felt called to the priesthood. He hoped to use his own journey back to the faith to help others. Father Crow received a master of divinity degree and a bachelor’s degree in sacred theology with a concentration in demonology and exorcism. He appeared in various Catholic podcasts and videos discussing demons. Requests for comment from school officials and the pastor of Corpus Christi Parish were not returned. Father Arensberg, the pastor, posted a message on the parish’s Facebook page expressing sadness and asking for prayers during this unexpected change.
