Today’s Catholic Reflection

In Genesis, after Adam and Eve eat from the forbidden tree, God searches for Adam. He asks where Adam is. Adam reveals he is hiding because he is afraid and feels naked. God questions how Adam came to this knowledge. Adam shifts the blame to Eve, and Eve blames the serpent. God then speaks of consequences for the serpent, declaring a struggle between it and the woman. He assures that the woman's offspring will prevail. Adam names his wife Eve, recognizing her as the mother of all living beings.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus is crucified. Several women, including his mother, stand by the cross. Jesus speaks to his mother, entrusting her to the disciple he loves. He instructs the disciple to take her into his home. As he approaches the end of his life, he expresses his thirst and receives a sponge soaked in wine. After drinking, he says his work is complete and dies. A soldier then pierces his side, and blood and water flow out.
