Today’s Catholic Reflection
Paul arrives in Athens and sees many shrines. He notices an altar dedicated to an "Unknown God." At the Areopagus, he speaks to the people. He tells them that the true God created the world and does not live in temples made by humans. God gives life to all and has made humanity from one source. Paul encourages them to seek God. He shares that God has overlooked past ignorance but now calls everyone to repentance. He mentions a coming day of judgment, confirmed by the resurrection of Jesus.
The people respond in different ways. Some scoff at the idea of resurrection, while others show interest in hearing more. A few, including a member of the Areopagus and a woman named Damaris, become believers. After this, Paul leaves Athens and travels to Corinth. A psalm praises the Lord from the heavens and the earth, acknowledging His glory and majesty. In the Gospel, Jesus promises the Spirit of truth, who will guide the disciples into all truth and reveal what is to come.
