Today’s Catholic Reflection
In Acts 6:1-7, the community of disciples faced complaints from the Hellenists about their widows not receiving proper care. The Twelve apostles saw the importance of addressing this issue while continuing their focus on prayer and preaching. They asked the community to choose seven reputable men, filled with the Spirit and wisdom, to oversee the distribution. The community agreed and selected seven men, including Stephen and Philip. The apostles then prayed and laid hands on them, which allowed the word of God to spread further, leading to more disciples in Jerusalem.
In 1 Peter 2:4-9, believers are invited to come to Jesus, a living stone rejected by people but chosen by God. They are encouraged to see themselves as living stones, building a spiritual house and a holy priesthood to offer sacrifices through Christ. This passage highlights the importance of faith in Jesus as the cornerstone, assuring that believers will not be put to shame. It describes them as a chosen race and a royal priesthood, meant to proclaim the praises of God who called them out of darkness into light. In John 14:1-12, Jesus comforts His disciples, telling them not to be troubled. He promises that He is preparing a place for them in His Father's house and reveals that He is the way, the truth, and the life, through whom they can know the Father.
