Today’s Catholic Reflection
Stephen was a man filled with grace and power. He performed wonders among the people. Some from the Synagogue of Freedmen argued with him but could not match his wisdom or the Spirit guiding him. Frustrated, they falsely accused him of blasphemy against Moses and God. This stirred the crowd and led to his arrest. They brought him before the Sanhedrin, where false witnesses claimed he spoke against the holy place and the law. Despite these accusations, those present saw that Stephen's face was like that of an angel.
The crowd that had seen Jesus feed the five thousand sought him out the next day. They noticed he had not traveled with his disciples and followed him to Capernaum. When they found him, they asked how he had gotten there. Jesus told them they were looking for him. He encouraged them to seek lasting spiritual nourishment instead of temporary food. Believing in him, the one sent by God, is the true work of God.
