Today’s Catholic Reflection
In Numbers, we see the Israelites traveling through the desert. Their frustrations grow, and they start to complain about their lack of food and water. They long for the comforts of Egypt. In response to their complaints, God sends venomous snakes that bite and kill many. The people realize their wrongs and ask Moses to pray for them. God then tells Moses to make a bronze serpent. Those who look at it after being bitten are healed.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus talks to the Pharisees about his upcoming departure. He warns them that they will search for him but will die in their sins due to their disbelief. He points out the difference between their earthly lives and his divine nature. When the Pharisees question who he is, Jesus reaffirms his connection to the Father. His actions are guided by the Father, and as he speaks, many begin to believe in him.
