Today’s Catholic Reflection

In Wisdom 2:1a, 12-22, the wicked plot against the just person. They see him as a threat to their way of life. They show contempt for his righteousness and knowledge of God. They believe they can test his claims of divine protection through persecution. They plan to humiliate him and bring about his death, convinced that if he is favored by God, he will be saved. Their wickedness blinds them to the truth, keeping them from seeing God's hidden plans and the rewards that await the innocent.

Psalm 34 offers comfort. The Lord is close to those who are brokenhearted and distressed. He listens to the cries of the just and delivers them from their troubles. While the just may face many challenges, the Lord watches over them and ensures their safety. In John 7:1-2, 10, 25-30, Jesus quietly attends the feast in Judea, despite the threats against his life. He teaches openly in the temple, affirming his divine mission and origin, and the authorities cannot arrest him because his time has not come.
