Today’s Catholic Reflection

In 1 Samuel, the LORD tells Samuel to anoint a new king from Jesse's sons in Bethlehem. Samuel first considers Eliab, the oldest son, because of his appearance. The LORD reminds him that He sees the heart, not just the outside. After rejecting seven sons, Samuel discovers the youngest, David, who is tending sheep. When David arrives, the LORD confirms him as the chosen one, and Samuel anoints him with oil.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus meets a man who has been blind since birth. The disciples wonder if the man's blindness is a result of his sin or that of his parents. Jesus explains that it is to show God's works. He heals the man by applying clay to his eyes and tells him to wash in the Pool of Siloam. The man receives his sight, leading to discussions among the Pharisees about Jesus' authority. Despite their doubts, the man recognizes Jesus as a prophet. In the end, Jesus reveals Himself, and the man believes and worships Him.
