Today’s Catholic Reflection
In the passage from Daniel, the speaker turns to God with respect and humility. They acknowledge the greatness and mercy of God while confessing the sins of the people. There is a recognition of rebellion against His commandments and the messages of the prophets. The shame felt by the people of Judah and Jerusalem is clear. They understand that justice belongs to God, and they have wandered away from His laws. Still, they seek God's compassion and forgiveness.
The Responsorial Psalm continues this plea for mercy. The psalmist asks God not to remember the past sins of His people. There is a deep sense of distress and a call for salvation, connecting God's glory with His ability to forgive. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus teaches His disciples about mercy. He encourages them to be merciful, just as God is. He advises them to avoid judgment and condemnation, assuring them that their acts of kindness will be met with kindness in return.
