Today’s Catholic Reflection

Moses speaks to the people, laying before them a choice. They can choose life and prosperity or death and destruction. He encourages them to obey God's commandments, to love Him, and to follow His ways. In doing so, they will find blessings in the land they are about to enter. If they turn to other gods, they will face dire consequences. Moses calls on heaven and earth to witness their decision and urges them to choose life for themselves and their children by staying faithful to God.

The psalm speaks of the blessings for those who trust in the Lord. They are like a tree planted by water, thriving and strong. In contrast, the wicked are like chaff, easily swept away. The Lord protects the righteous, while the path of the wicked leads to destruction. In the Gospel, Jesus shares His coming suffering and death. He tells His disciples to deny themselves and take up their crosses. True life comes from losing oneself for His sake, as gaining the world means nothing if one loses their soul.
