Today’s Catholic Reflection
Jeroboam met the prophet Ahijah as he was leaving Jerusalem. Ahijah tore his new cloak into twelve pieces and gave ten to Jeroboam. He told him that God would take the kingdom from Solomon and give it to him. Only one tribe would stay with Solomon for David's sake and for Jerusalem. This moment marked the start of Israel's separation from the house of David.
In the Gospel, Jesus traveled through the Decapolis and met a deaf man who had trouble speaking. He took the man aside and healed him by touching his ears and tongue. He said, "Be opened." The man's hearing returned, and he began to speak clearly. Even though Jesus asked them to keep the miracle quiet, the people shared the news and marveled at what he had done.
