Today’s Catholic Reflection
In 1 Kings 11:4-13, we see the later years of Solomon. He strays from his faith and begins to worship foreign gods, influenced by his wives. This angers the Lord, who had spoken directly to him. Solomon ignores the warnings and builds places for idol worship. Because of his disobedience, the Lord announces that he will take the kingdom from Solomon's son, though he will spare part of it for David's sake.
In the Gospel of Mark 7:24-30, Jesus goes to Tyre looking for some quiet time. Soon, a Syrophoenician woman approaches him. Her daughter is possessed by a demon, and she begs for help. Jesus initially says his mission is for the children of Israel. The woman responds wisely, pointing out that even dogs eat the scraps from the table. Jesus, moved by her faith, tells her the demon has left her daughter. When she returns home, she finds her daughter healed.
