Today’s Catholic Reflection
In Malachi, the Lord speaks of a messenger who will prepare the way. This messenger will come suddenly to the temple, bringing a challenge to those seeking the Lord. He will refine and purify the people, especially the priests, so their sacrifices are pleasing to God. The passage ends with a promise that the offerings from Judah and Jerusalem will again be acceptable to the Lord.
In Luke, Mary and Joseph present Jesus at the temple, following the Jewish law. Simeon, a righteous man filled with the Holy Spirit, recognizes Jesus as the Messiah and praises God for the gift of salvation. He speaks of the impact Jesus will have on Israel and hints at the suffering Mary will face. Anna, a devoted prophetess, also acknowledges Jesus and shares His significance with those longing for redemption. The passage concludes with Jesus growing strong and wise, favored by God.
