Today’s Catholic Reflection
In Isaiah, we see a shift from despair to hope for Zebulun and Naphtali. These regions once knew darkness and hardship. The Lord promises to bring light and joy to the people living in gloom. They will rejoice, much like a harvest that brings abundance, as their burdens are lifted and their pain is eased.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus begins his ministry in Galilee after John the Baptist's arrest. He makes his home in Capernaum, fulfilling Isaiah's prophecy about a great light in dark places. Jesus calls his first disciples, Peter and Andrew, along with James and John. He invites them to follow him and become fishers of men. He preaches repentance and heals many, signaling the arrival of the kingdom of heaven.
