Today’s Catholic Reflection
David approached King Saul with confidence. He offered to fight Goliath, the Philistine warrior, even though he was still a youth. Saul was doubtful and mentioned Goliath's experience as a fighter. David reassured Saul by sharing how God had protected him from lions and bears. He had faith that God would deliver him from Goliath as well. After receiving Saul's blessing, David chose five smooth stones and went to face Goliath, who mocked him for being young and unarmed. David declared that he came in the name of the Lord, stating that the battle belonged to God.
In the Gospel, Jesus entered a synagogue and saw a man with a withered hand. The Pharisees were watching closely, hoping to find a reason to accuse him for healing on the Sabbath. Jesus asked them if it was lawful to do good on that day. When they remained silent, he healed the man's hand, restoring it completely. This act of compassion angered the Pharisees, who then began to conspire with the Herodians against Jesus.
