Today’s Catholic Reflection

King David is now at peace in his palace. He notices that he lives in luxury while the ark of God is in a tent. David feels this is not right. Nathan the prophet agrees with David's wish to build a temple. That night, God speaks to Nathan. He reminds Nathan of His presence with David from his days as a shepherd to now as king. God assures Nathan that He will create a lasting dynasty for David and his descendants.

In the Gospel, Zechariah is filled with the Holy Spirit. He praises God for coming to His people and offering salvation through a Savior from David's line. He remembers God's promises to Abraham, the promise to free His people from their enemies, enabling them to worship without fear. Zechariah speaks about his own child, who will prepare the way for the Lord and bring knowledge of salvation through forgiveness. He shares God's compassion, saying that light will shine on those in darkness, guiding them toward peace.
