Today’s Catholic Reflection
Jacob gathers his sons to bless them, giving special attention to Judah. He tells them that Judah will be praised and will rise above his enemies. Jacob compares him to a strong lion. He speaks of a scepter that will belong to Judah, suggesting that his family line will produce a future ruler who will be honored by the people.
The Psalm presents a vision of a just king who will lead with fairness and protect those in need. This king's reign brings peace and justice to the land. In Matthew, the genealogy traces Jesus' lineage back to Abraham, mentioning important figures like David and Solomon. This lineage shows how God's promise unfolds through generations, culminating in Jesus, recognized as the Christ.
