Today’s Catholic Reflection
The passage reflects on the prophet Elijah. He was a strong figure, a messenger of God. He performed many miracles, like shutting the heavens and calling down fire. His role was to prepare the way for the Lord, turning hearts back to God and restoring the tribes of Jacob. Those who saw Elijah's work were blessed by his presence.
The responsorial psalm is a heartfelt plea for God's help. It asks Him to shine forth and save His people. God is portrayed as a shepherd, caring for His vine and strengthening His chosen ones. In the gospel, Jesus speaks with His disciples about Elijah. He reveals that Elijah has come in the form of John the Baptist. Jesus shares that, like Elijah, He will face rejection, helping the disciples grasp the depth of His mission.
