Today’s Catholic Reflection
In 2 Samuel, the tribes of Israel come together in Hebron to recognize David as their king. They honor his leadership during Saul's reign and affirm that God has chosen him to guide the people. The elders make a covenant with David, and he is anointed king. This marks a pivotal moment in the history of Israel.
The psalm speaks of joy in going to the house of the Lord. It portrays Jerusalem as a united city where the tribes come to worship. In Colossians, there is gratitude for God's deliverance from darkness and for a place in the kingdom of Christ, who holds all creation together. The Gospel tells the story of Jesus' crucifixion, where he faces mockery from rulers and soldiers. In that moment, one criminal recognizes Jesus' innocence and asks to be remembered in his kingdom, and Jesus assures him of a place in Paradise.
