Today’s Catholic Reflection
In Romans 9:1-5, the speaker shares deep sorrow for the people of Israel. He wishes he could give up his own well-being for them. He acknowledges their special bond with God. They are the chosen people, blessed with covenants, the law, and promises. Christ, who is above all, comes from their lineage, showcasing the importance of their identity.
In Luke 14:1-6, Jesus is at a meal in a Pharisee's house. He sees a man suffering from dropsy and asks the Pharisees if healing on the Sabbath is lawful. They do not respond. After healing the man, Jesus questions whether they would help their child or animal in need on the Sabbath. This exchange reveals the struggle between following the law and showing compassion.
