Today’s Catholic Reflection
In Romans, Paul shares that those united with Christ Jesus are free from condemnation. The law, weakened by human sinfulness, could not bring salvation. God sent His Son to condemn sin and fulfill the law's requirements. Those who live according to the Spirit focus on spiritual matters, leading to life and peace. In contrast, those who live according to the flesh face death and cannot please God. The presence of the Spirit within believers shows their belonging to Christ, giving them life even in the midst of sin.
In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus speaks to a common misunderstanding about suffering. He cautions that all must repent to avoid perishing, using examples of Galileans killed by Pilate and those who died when a tower fell. He shares a parable of a fruitless fig tree, showing God's patience and desire for repentance. The gardener asks for more time to care for the tree, hoping it will bear fruit. This highlights the chance for change and growth before judgment comes.
