Today’s Catholic Reflection
In Romans, the author speaks to the community. He encourages them to turn away from sin and embrace righteousness. They had once given in to sinful ways, which brought shame and death. Now, freed from sin, they are invited to dedicate themselves to God. This leads to sanctification and the promise of eternal life. The passage shows the stark difference between the consequences of sin and the gift of life through faith in Christ.
The Psalm speaks of those who trust in the Lord. It highlights the blessings that come from following His path. The righteous are like a fruitful tree, thriving by the water. In contrast, the wicked are like chaff, easily blown away. In the Gospel, Jesus shares His mission to bring a transformative fire to the earth. His presence may bring division, even within families. He acknowledges the difficult nature of His message, which can create conflict among loved ones.
